Full Moon in Jyeṣṭhā

The Star of Protection

June 3rd 11:42 PM Eastern Time
At 19° of Scorpio
In the Nakṣatra of Jyeṣṭhā

Symbol- A Talisman- Worn for protection
Deity- Indra, King of the Gods
Shakti- Arohana Shakti- The power to conquer or climb up

Tonight’s Full Moon falls in lunar stars of Jyeṣṭhā, ruled by Indra- the king of the Devas and the Heavens. His weapon? A thunderbolt, representing total annihilation… I write this as lightning strikes outside of my city apartment on a young summer day. A summer storm rises, and Indra, the most excellent, surpasses all odds, just as lightning strikes through anything it touches. The Moon will be exuding its peak luminescence tonight, but it will also be in its placement of greatest weakness in the solar constellation of Scorpio. Scorpio combines the elements of fire and water, which can not co-exist.

This zone of the Zodiac represents our hiding, secrets, suspicion, plots, schemes, enemies, transformation and change. The Moon in contrast is cooling, sweet, caring, and nurturing. The Moon governs all of our sensory experiences and is the seat of memory and emotional well being. It is hard for the Moon, which represents our minds, to find ‘good space’ in the turbulent waters of Scorpio. If you find yourself looking over one shoulder this Full Moon, rest assured that this soon will pass and any battles of will are better resolved with acceptance of others' differences, than with domination.

The shakti for Jyeṣṭhā is ‘arohana shakti’-the power to conquer or climb up. Indra is one tough dude. He rises again and again after every battle, no matter how many times Indra is defeated he rises again. Jyeṣṭhā represents this ‘unconquerable’ nature, perseverance, determination and the ability to overcome great odds. On the negative side one’s ego can get out of control easily as Indra is often drunk on his own Soma (self-importance).

At 19° of Scorpio, the Moon will be very close to Antares- the marker star for Jyeṣṭhā, and the bleeding heart of the Scorpion. This is also considered a Sarpa, ‘snake’ portion of the Zodiac. If revelations, scandal or unfair attacks arise- learn what's needed from the experience and discard the rest. This extremely bright star dotting the cosmic highway is the star of Entrepreneurship and represents those that are able to establish a high degree of authority. It is a wonderful time to make efforts to increase success and prosperity in business and finance. Antares is a red supergiant star, and if put into the center of our solar system, the Sun would look like a speck of sand next to it. Antares diameter would extend past the orbit of Mars, which again lends itself to this larger than life deity Indra, the supreme.

In the D9- the chart of spirituality this Full Moon carries the energy of Sagittarius, which puts it into the 2nd house of a Scorpio chart, emphasizing family matters, finances, prosperity, social welfare, and a thirst for spiritual knowledge. This Full Moon cycle reminds us that self mastery is available to all. Measure how much inner power can be wielded by having control over one's desires and reactions. Lest you find yourself senselessly obsessed with revenge, justice, or your own thirst for power and domination. The power of discernment is highlighted now.
