Tomorrow's partial Lunar Eclipse invokes feelings of new beginnings and personal breakthroughs. This may be connected to overall health and longevity, as well as the alleviation of suffering. This is the second eclipse occurring in Aśvinī after we had the Solar eclipse in April in these stars. We can expect that what began in April of this year may now be coming to a place of fruition on a personal level, as the Moon rests Full in these stars now.

This is an opportune time to breathe new life into something that began in April, especially if it is connected to your independence and life’s purpose, the meanings associated with Svāti star where the Sun is placed at this time. Both Aśvinī and Svāti emphasize independence and movement. If your life’s calling is in need of some attention, or unclear altogether… you may be thinking of how to pioneer a fresh start in a new field, or how to grow more independence on the path you’ve chosen.

The Aśvinī Kumares are celestial healers, the first physicians, who bring honey to the gods and live to be of service to the common man. In Vedic mythology it is the Aśvinī kumares who restore eyesight to the blind and youth to the aging, as they perform miraculous cures. Longevity, health and wellness will be emphasized during this time. This is a good time to focus on mental health, and routines that will strengthen your personal day to day health.

These stars are connected to our Prānā and Apāna, inspiration and expiration. Meditation and prānāyāma (controlled breathing practices) are powerful ways to restore health, and slow the process of aging. All healing modalities that increase longevity are emphasized by this glowing duo.

This lunar asterism covers 0°-13’20° of Zodiacal arc in Aries. Hamal and Sheraton, the bright stars in Aries, are the two Yogatārās- marker stars for this zone. The symbol for this star is two men riding horses, or horse headed humans, they are connected to the great strength, resilience, speed, and the ability to make an entrance.

The Aśvinī Kumares are born of the exchange of breath between Surya (the Sun) and Sanya (the Sun’s wife). These celestial twins are named Dasra and Nasatya, which means bringing help, and truthfulness.

May this Full Moon Lunar eclipse breath new life into your service to humanity and well-being at this time.

Visible all over the world except for North and South America. This eclipse occurs with the North Node, Rahu, in Vedic Mythology Rahu is the Head of a Snake that was severed from its body. Insatiability is a huge theme with Rahu, as there is no ‘belly’ to digest its hunger for more.

Rahu casting its shadow over the Moon which represents our perception of reality and mental acuity, will bring fear, obsessions, and delusions of the ego (self) in relation to others (the Moon). This has been a harrowing time for the world. Since the nodes have no ‘body’ and are the two points where the Suns axis crosses over the Moons axis (creating eclipses twice a year). The nodes ‘act like’ whatever planets they are connected to.

Rahu is now connected to Aries until it moves into Pisces in a few days. Aries is ruled by the planet Mars. Mars is the warrior of the zodiac, and will be going into deep combustion (invisible due to the Suns Rays) from November 5th -November 28th. We may have to continue to act in ways that counteract the lower nature of Mars, resolving anger, greed and judgment within ourselves. Loyalty and honor tend to take a downturn when Mars is in a place of ‘weakness’.

We can also counter this influence by making our personal well-being and mental health a priority for the next six months. Until the next eclipse cycle begins.

“I am the child of the Earth and the starry Heavens,
but my origin is of Heaven alone.”- Orphic Grave Tablet

I truly believe that this life chose me, on a bookshelf in Thailand when I stumbled upon Light on Life by Hart De Fou (an introduction to Vedic astrology). My first teacher found me shortly after, when I received my first reading with a Jyotiṣhi (Vedic Astrologer Alison Bodhani). At that time I was 25 years old, building adobe houses at a yoga community in Thailand somewhat convinced I’d be in a mud patch for the rest of my life because of my love of the art form. The first words she uttered to me was you’re an Astrologer... the shivers that ensued.

A new life found me in that moment, and a sense of ease carried me toward the pursuit of deepening my relationship to the stars in a way that was unlike everything else I was ‘choosing’. Three years living and learning under the stars on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, followed, how did I get so lucky? The fear inside of me lived as well, for many years, questioning my fate, self-worth, and skills in this study. At some point, rather recently my cells felt a knowing, a resting in this space with no allowance to question. Fated, it seems as Jyotiṣa has always had the power to pull me back every time I turned my back to it, every time I ‘chose’ a different path, the floor dropped, and the sky rose again.

These fated moments came into my life as a gift, in the simplest, seemingly mundane encounters, the musings of a bookshelf. I felt what is for me, had found me. And in that moment the world opened up, a whole new way of being and perceiving reality. That feeling as if “I had been doing it” left the building, was it ever really a me choosing? Or the universe choosing me?
